CathNode

Product Design & 3D Visualization

CathNode sensor and brain unit

Overview

Medical device startup developing automated urine output monitoring for hospitals. I joined as project manager and sole designer, working with engineers and finance students on product visualization, brand identity, and investor-facing materials.

The Problem

Nurses manually measure urine output by pouring collection bags into graduated cylinders, hand-recording values, then entering them into medical records. It's slow, inaccurate, and delays detection of acute kidney injury - where hours matter.

Process

Worked from engineering specs and clinical requirements to model the two-part system: a fluid sensor that clips into existing catheter hardware, and a wearable "brain" unit for power and connectivity. The priority was making an early-stage device feel real enough to close pilots and funding.

Product Visualization

Built complete 3D models and animated sequences showing connection mechanisms, patient wear scenarios, and data flow to hospital EMR systems.
